After practicing yoga off and on throughout college as a means to relieve stress and anxiety, Mary decided to deepen and share her practice by completing the 200-hr. yoga teacher training course at Eyes of the World in Providence, RI with Tom Gillette in September 2010.

As a teacher I encourage both new and experienced yoga practitioners to cultivate curiosity, awareness and acceptance of their physical bodies by guiding students towards an increasingly mindful practice through breath work (pranayama) and postures (asana).

I’ve taken several classes with Mary and have thoroughly enjoyed these sessions with her.  Since classes are small and more intimate, it allows you, the yogi to work 1:1 with Mary on technique and learn new poses.  She can easily tailor the class to your needs.

I continue to develop my own personal practice in an effort to maintain balance in my life, as well as to stretch out all the kinks that come with playing roller derby for the Bay Area Roller Derby Girls!

I am a strong believer in expanding my knowledge and practice by teaching in studios, volunteering in community centers and providing private instruction/consultation. I continue to develop my understanding of the body through meditation, anatomy, visualization, and contemplation of the relationship between yoga postures and their impact on both the physical body as well as the mind. I also love attending yoga workshops in the San Francisco area!

    I used to do ashtanga daily but was sick for awhile, problems with my transplant, and the drugs also gave me more weight. I was lucky to learn one on one in someone’s home and am scared to take a class. I think I will be embarassed. There are likely others like me who used to enjoy yoga and miss it;, and hope to go back to a regular practice – food for thought.
